Visit LOARC’s Tranquil Facilities

Arena_and_Viewing-RoomLOARC, situated on Lichen Oaks Ranch in Felton, CA, presents a serene and inviting atmosphere to the rider and observer. Surrounded by oaks, redwoods, pines, Manzanita and other tree and plant varieties, you’ll feel miles away from any urban center.

The covered arena’s riding area measures 76’ x 139’. Its walls and ceiling are constructed of redwood taken from the tear down of the old Scotia Lumber Mill in Humboldt County, California. These magnificent redwoods give the arena an open air feeling while protecting the riders from the sun or rain — so that our operations and riding sessions are never cancelled due to weather.

Alongside the arena is the glass-walled viewing room where spectators can observe the activities in the arena from an enclosed, raised platform. The glass wall can be rolled back to make viewing an intimate experience with the riders. Other viewing areas are the bleachers and two decks overlooking the arena.

The second building at LOARC is the nine stall barn which serves as home to the horses. Each 12’ x 12’ or larger stall includes a paddock open to the outside allowing horses to roam in and out of the weather at their pleasure. Horses are turned out to a pasture to enhance their overall health and wellbeing. Each stall is also monitored with an internet connected camera and video recording capability so horses can be viewed at any time day or night over the internet.

LOARC offices, feed room, tack room and grooming facilities round out the rooms in the barn. Similar to the arena, the barn is also principally constructed of redwood from the Scotia Lumber Mill. Both buildings are protected with a fire sprinkler system connected to an onsite 78,000 gallon water storage tank and additional water supply through the ranch’s water storage system. Both buildings are also protected from power outages by an onsite generator system.
